The rapid population growth in Tirtamulya Subdistrict, Karawang Regency, has led to an increase in domestic wastewater volume, necessitating a more optimal management system. Based on the Karawang Regency Health Profile of 2022, the rate of Open Defecation (OD) in this area was recorded at 0%. However, most residents already have latrines but do not yet have septic tanks to treat their wastewater. To address this condition, the construction of an integrated On-site Domestic Wastewater Management System (SPALD-S) is planned to expand wastewater treatment service coverage and prevent the spread of waterborne diseases. The priority locations for development include Kertawaluya Village and Kamurang Village, with a short-term planning period of 8 years (2024–2031). The service plan is targeted to reach 4,408 residents in Kertawaluya and 3,493 residents in Kamurang. The planned infrastructure includes a wastewater conveyance system, installation of household connection pipes with a diameter of 114 mm (16,883 m) and lateral pipes with a diameter of 165 mm (14,483 m), both made of uPVC, as well as the construction of 88 septic tanks in Kertawaluya and 70 septic tanks in
Kamurang. The total cost requirement is estimated at IDR 21.112.185.778. The implementation of this SPALD-S is expected to improve public health and environmental quality, while serving as a strategic step toward sustainable domestic wastewater management in accordance with the Regulation of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (2017).
