Penelitian berbasis perancangan ini merupakan proyek tugas akhir sebagai bagian dari penelitian mengenai pengembangan kawasan wisata edukasi terpadu bertema jagung oleh PT. Matahati Kreasi Nusantara di Ciwidey, Jawa Barat. Fokus utama penelitian adalah perancangan meja TV sebagai furnitur kabin inap dengan memanfaatkan bonggol jagung sebagai material utama dengan menggunakan teknik bending. Pendekatan perancangan dilakukan dengan metode desain berbasis prototip, mencakup tahapan pemahaman persoalan, perumusan atau identifikasi persoalan, hingga prototyping. Teknik bending laminasi diterapkan dalam eksplorasi bentuk diawali dengan pencarian bentuk melalui gambar, dengan tujuan menonjolkan karakter visual dan potensi struktural bonggol jagung yang cukup sulit atau mahal jika dilakukan pada material lain. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, survei, dan wawancara terhadap pengunjung di berbagai penginapan dalam radius 5 km dari lokasi proyek. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah memperoleh data data untuk keperluan wisata edukasi jagung serta kebutuhan furnitur dalam kabin sebagai landasan untuk merancangan meja TV dalam kabin. Pada akhir penelitian dihasilkan prototip meja TV bonggol jagung yang merupakan produk full bending berdasarkan pemanfaatan maksimal pada cetakan yang dimiliki mitra industri, serta top table bonggol jagung yang mempunyai susunan baru yang belum ada sebelumnya, dan selama penelitian dihasilkan temuan yaitu bentuk lengkungan baru dari penggabungan hasil bending cetakan silinder berdiameter 40cm dan 60cm, yang dibagi menjadi 4. Masing-masing potongan 40cm ini digabungkan dengan potongan hasil bending 60cm. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bonggol jagung memiliki keunikan karakteristik serta kualitas visual yang unik, dan memiliki peluang untuk dikembangkan lebih lanjut menjadi produk furnitur yang inovatif.

This design-based research is a final project as part of research on the development of an integrated corn-themed educational tourism area by PT. Matahati Kreasi Nusantara in Ciwidey, West Java. The main focus of the research is the design of a TV table as overnight cabin furniture by utilizing corn cobs as the main material using bending techniques. The design approach is carried out using a prototype-based design method, including the stages of understanding the problem, formulating or identifying the problem, to prototyping. The laminated bending technique is applied in the exploration of forms starting with the search for forms through images, with the aim of highlighting the visual character and structural potential of corn cobs which are quite difficult or expensive if done with other materials. Data were collected through observations, surveys, and interviews with visitors at various lodgings within a 5 km radius of the project location. The purpose of this research is to obtain data for the purposes of corn educational tourism and the needs of in-cabin furniture as a basis for designing an in-cabin TV table. At the end of the research, a prototype of a corn cob TV table was produced which is a full bending product based on maximum utilization of molds owned by industrial partners, as well as a corn cob table top that has a new arrangement that has not existed before, and during the research, a discovery was made, namely a new curved shape from combining the results of bending cylindrical molds with a diameter of 40cm and 60cm, which are divided into 4. Each of these 40cm pieces is combined with a 60cm piece of bending results. The results of the study show that corn cobs have unique characteristics and unique visual qualities, and have the opportunity to be further developed into innovative furniture products.
