<note>Dissimilar Metal Welding is needed nowadays especially in metal joining technology when the available metal are in two different types. This can be applied in various utilities such as in heat-exchanger and in many project, e.g. construction, petrochemica industry, metal industry and others. In fact, not every different type of metals are able to be dissimilarly welded, including Stainless Steel or such kind of steels. The choosing of the combination between AISI 304 and AISI 1045 is considered appropriate answer as an example of several dissimilar metal welding applications. The main challenge of this project is to obtain the good mechanical and physical characteristic. Sometimes the only solution is to use PWHT method. The maio Objectivity is to analyze the mechanical property and microstrucre data of
PWHT product. In this case, the mechanical property is provided in Vickers Hardness Number. Those compilated data are compared and the decisioning of the quality of the dissimilar welding product can be taken. The Methods are using PWHT with temperature 11 00°C in 1, 4 and 9 hours holding time (quench). The others are using PWHT with temperature 450°C in 4 hour holding time (one group in 3 current variations is quenched and the other is normalized). The Result of this experiment is in two types. First, the hardness number and second is microstructure image. Those results are analyzed good in quality of joint and surely, the main conclusion is: "The Dissimilar Metal Welding between AISI 304 and AISI 1045 can be done".</note>
